New Projects 2010/11
In addition to our continuing existing projects Billingham Town Council are developing the following new initiatives in 2010/11.
New Projects
Community Orchard
Working in partnership with The Shaw Trust and Stockton Borough Council, Billingham Town Council is to develop a Community Orchard at the penisula of Osbourne Park. The orchard will host hundreds of fruit trees, which we are looking for community involvement to help Billingham Town Council nurture and grow this fantastic project. We are currently approaching Awards for All for funding for the initial costs for this project.
Grit Bins
Following a very cold winter when we experienced a lot of ice and snow on our paths and roads, Billingham Town Council has received numerous requests for the extra provision of grit bins around Billingham.
The Town Council have agreed to fund additional grit bins, and these will be allocated on a rolling programme each year.
Criteria will be set to ensure we cover roads that are not allocated bins by Stockton Borough Council, working to compliment the existing provision.
Our Services & Amenities Committee will review requests made for grit bins to Billingham Town Council.
Pride of Billingham Awards
Billingham Town Council wants to recognise and celebrate achievements and dedication of local residents within Billingham who have been outstanding citizens or good neighbours. We are asking the people of Billingham to nominate individuals who they think have made a major contribution to improving the life of the community.
The four categories will be:
- Good Neighbour Award
- Young Achiever Award
- Personal or Community Achievement Award
- Resident of the Year Award
The scheme will be launched at our AGM in May 2010.
Billingham Free Community Newspaper
The first issue of the Billingham Community Newspaper has been published by the Billingham Community Newspaper Group and distributed around Billingham at Easter. The paper will be published quarterly in its first year. Billingham Town Council has been instrumental in helping the committee to get off the ground and secure the funding needed to make sure the paper will be distributed to all of the 17,000 homes in the town.

Enforcement Provision
Billingham Town Council will have two dedicated officers who will be solely for Billingham and will be providing extra cover on Friday and Saturday evenings. There will be a direct line for residents to contact the officer on 07747 033429.
We endeavour to reduce the increased anti-social behaviour we are experiencing around Billingham.
