New Projects 2011/12
In addition to our continuing existing projects Billingham Town Council are developing the following initiatives in 2011/12.
New Projects
Community Orchard
Billingham Town Council has registered an interest to Stockton Borough Council in developing the peninsula area of Osbourne Park into a Community Orchard. We await permission from Stockton Borough Council to go ahead with this project in partnership with Shaw Trust. The orchard will host hundreds of fruit trees, which we are looking for community involvement to help Billingham Town Council nurture and grow this fantastic project. We will be approaching Awards for All for funding for the initial costs for this project.
Grit Bins
Following a very cold winter when we experienced a lot of ice and snow on our paths and roads, Billingham Town Council has received numerous requests for the extra provision of grit bins around Billingham.
As the situation of grit reserves and locations is unclear at present, the Town Council have unfortunately had little choice but to put this years allocation of additional grit bins on hold. Once we are given a clearer directive then we will review our position with this project.
Should you have any questions around this please contact our office on 01642 551171.
Keep Billingham Tidy
We have launched a “Keep Billingham Tidy” campaign with Wolviston Primary School, Roseberry Primary School and Billingham South Primary School designing posters to become our signature poster and will promote the campaign throughout Billingham.
Pride of Billingham Awards
Launched at our AGM in 2010. Award winners were invited to receive their awards at our AGM on 17th May 2011. The categories were:
- Good Neighbour Award
- Young Achiever Award
- Personal or Community Achievement Award
- Resident of the Year
Enforcement Provision
Over the past thirteen months the Town Council has sponsored extra hours of enforcement provision with two dedicated officers who patrol Billingham on Friday & Saturday evenings from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm and respond to direct calls from the community. The service is proving to have a huge impact on our Town, and compliments the existing provision that Stockton Borough Council provides.
The direct line for residents to contact officers is 07747 033429 or (01642) 528439.
We endeavour to reduce the increased anti-social behaviour we are experiencing around Billingham.
